It's Steele a Possibility
Part 3

by LoveSteele

(Mildred's version of events.  Short but sweet.  I hope.)

Something's up with the two of 'em.  You can see it in their eyes.  Oh, they think they're fooling everyone, walking around here all day, acting like nothing's up.  After three years of watching these two lovebirds, I can tell when they're up to something.  And boy, are they both up to something. About damned time too.  Frankly, I don't know for sure if they've ever crossed that line, but I don't think they have yet.  They're still too... what's the word... awkward around each other to presume that they're that close.  I don't mean to say that they don't love each other.  That's obvious to anybody with two eyes.

Yet, I know there's something between the two of them that keeps them apart.  In fact, I don't remember a time when they've come into work together, freshly invigorated from a night and morning spent in bed, not sleeping.  I think that when they do take that final step, I'll be the first to know.  It'll be that obvious to anyone that knows them.  And, I know 'em better than anyone.

As far as I know, Mr. Steele has no family.  He's got that Mr. Chalmers character, but I don't pretend to understand what that is about.  Miss Holt stays as far away from her family as she can.  It's kinda sad, really.  I've never met her mother, but the one time I was here when Mrs. Holt was in town, Laura was in the office twenty-four seven, didn't take a break to go home it seemed.  Judging from her sister, I don't blame her.  Francis is a kook.

So, that leaves them to each other.  I know the spend most of their time together.  I'm not stupid. They sneak out early for romantic dinners and such.  I know they're trying to make things work, but I worry.  How could I not worry?  I don't have my own children to consider, so watching these two kids makes me happy.  I want them to be happy, and I know that they'll be happiest together.

If they'd only GET together.  They've got a date at Mr. Steele's place tonight.  He asked me some serious questions about American pizza today.  The man's a gourmet chef and he's asking me about pizza.  Weird.  Anyway, Laura left hear early tonight.  That's a good sign.  What I'd give to see them rush to work in the morning, obviously late from waking up late... or getting up late.  Either way, I'd throw a party.  These two won't have forever, so I wish they'd get over their differences and get a move on.  Some grandkids would be icing on the cake.

The End!
