Laura stood in Mr.Steele´s office and her thoughts where far away. She frowned when she thought about the mess with her father. She had never expected him to come here. Oh, how hurt she had been over the fact that he had left her once. It had cut her inside in a way that she´d never thought it could heal. But now he was back and it was tearing it all up once again.

Laura´s face brightened up when she thought of her husband. The way he supported her.The way he loved her.If it hadn´t been for him she wouldn´t have known how to be able to deal with this. He made her strong. She thought of all the years when she had been sure she was stronger standing alone. How wrong that was. Remington Steele had made her complete. She smiled when she heard his voice calling her name and she turned around when he entered the room.

"Darling, is everything OKAY?"

He looked a bit worried. Laura walked up to him, put her arms around his neck and smiled.

"Everything is just fine, but it could even be better," he said.

She gave him a look he now knew well. He gave her a dashing smile and bent down his head and kissed her.

Laura sighed when he lifted his head a few minutes later. " Maybe we should get back to work, Mr.Steele, we´ve got a case to solve."

"Well, Laura, although I´d love to continue kissing you - I agree. This case won´t solve itself. Unfortunately."

Mr. Steele walked over to his desk and sat down on the chair. "Did you call the museum in Ireland while I checked on your father?"

"And how was he doing?" Laura asked.

"He´s fine. He seems a bit calmer than yesterday but I think he was a bit disappointed that you didn´t show up."

"Really?" Laura´s voice was sarcastic.

"Laura...."

"Please - no", she interrupted. "We need to work on the case, and right now that´s what we should keep our minds on. The other things can wait."

"Ok", he grinned. "So, what about the museum?"

"Right. I called the museum in Dublin and talked to a Mr. Eric Simpson. It seems as he was Phillip Raymond´s contact at the museum. Raymond was arranging for the museum to receive an antique jewel necklace from Russia. Raymond was organizing the whole deal and they where expecting the jewel a couple of days after he was killed. So, it was Raymond/s task to arrange its trip over to Ireland. "

Remington Steele looked as he was considering the facts for a while and then asked - "What about other associates? He must have had someone working beside him..."

"Eric Simpson didn´t know much about it. It seems as Raymond was quite secretive this time about who he was working with. Simpson trusted Raymond completely since they had done lots of buisness together before. Raymond had told him that he had a contactman in Russia and Simpson never found it necessary to check in case something was wrong. But I think that something is definetly wrong here somewhere." Laura stopped to think. "When I asked Simpson where the jewel is now, he said that the thing that was a bit strange was that Raymond allready had received the jewel from Russia. This was something that Mr.Simpson hadn´t been aware of until he´d talked to the man in Russia. So, this jewel is missing even for him. He said they where going through Raymond´s papers to see if they could discover something that could help them locate the necklace. But the whole thing needed to be handled with discretion he said. It wouldn´t look good on the museum if the media got to hear about this. And yet, Simpson doesn´t know that Raymond was murdered. According to what he was told Raymond died of a heart attack. He´ll give us a call if they find out something strange with Raymond´s papers though."

"And you don´t think there´s anything to find with this contact man in Russia, Laura?"

Laura shook her head. " Who knows? But no...If The Hand is involved, it all might as well has happened in Ireland, right? You said it yourself - they´re everywhere. "

Laura and Remington were standing in their kitchen making dinner. They both enjoyed an evening alone with one and other. "I just talked to Jennifer yesterday", Laura said, "She said she and Jonathan would like to have us for dinner next week. What do you say about that?"
"Sure, that´ll be just fine" He smiled at his wife. Laura felt her heart beating faster the way it always did when he smiled at her. He was just about to open a bottle of wine when she moved up against him and put her arms around him.

"I´m so happy with the fact that I´m legally allowed to hug you as much as I want!" She smiled at him. He laughed.

"Oh, Laura, darling. You´ve made me so happy. And now that we soon are becoming three... I can hardly belive it." He looked at her with love in his blue eyes. He took his hand and stroke it gently over her tummy and bent down his head and kissed her.

Later the same night Laura stood in the elevator on her way up to Remington Steele´s old apartment where her father now was staying. She was trembling with nervousness. She had promised Remington she would talk to her father before it was too late. They had talked about it over dinner and she had decided to go over there when they had finished their dinner.

She didn´t know if she could ever forgive her father but the least she could do was to give him a chance to explain. But she also kept in mind that Carlton Holt hadn´t shown up here for her sake but for his own. If he hadn´t been mixed up in this murder he probably wouldn´t have shown up at all.

She had so much anger left inside from her teenage years when he had left them. So many times she had wondered what he was doing, why he had acted the way he had. And suddenly he just showed up needing her help. How could a parent do something like that? She put her hand on her tummy. She would never ever be able to do something like that to her child.

But now she would give him a chance to explain anyway. The fact that she knew that her husband stood by her, gave her the strength to do what the situation needed. Remington had offered to go with her, but she had told him that she ought to go there alone.

The elevator stopped and she entered the corridor. When she came closer, she found that the door was broken.

"Oh, God, my father...." Laura shoved the door open and stared out in a compact darkness. "Carlton?"
